Dr. Koyal Garg received her M.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2008 and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2012 from Virginia Commonwealth University. Throughout her doctoral studies, her research emphasis was on bioengineering electrospun vascular grafts that could stimulate a favorable macrophage phenotype and angiogenic response.
During her post-doctoral tenure at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (2012-2014), Dr. Garg's interest in regenerative medicine was further reinforced as she focused on the pre-clinical development and testing of biomaterial and stem cell-based therapies for improving functional regeneration of skeletal muscle following traumatic injuries. As a post-doctoral scholar at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2014-2016), she continued her research and developed regenerative therapies utilizing electrical stimulation, laminin-111, and stem cells to improve skeletal muscle mass and function following injury and aging.
